Not incredibly crazy about either of these but Thatch takes this one

"Throwing my vote away" here for the Modern, which was my #20 of the year vs. #25 for Thatch (as I've said before I like this Thatch a lot but feel it's overrated).

BM is good but that Thatch is a killer. Also a personal fave, since that was my first show of the summer and what a great show it was. Beautiful summer evening with a wonderful sunset and just great vibes. I actually DM'd the JOTY podsters when it ended and suggested it was going to be a contender. If you ever get to see a show at that venue, do it.

I know I am not supposed to like this Big Modern over this Thatch but I do. Itβs cohesive with nice layers. Nothing against this thatch tho. Iβll be keeping this BM!

This BM is so great. Absolutlely love the dark groove. It has my vote.

Chalk here - great Thatch, but doesnβt do it for me in the grand scheme of things for JOTY. Interested to see how far it makes it ultimately.

Going Big Modern here, but this one's a toss up for me, as it's my no. 6 versus my no. 10. Both jams are worthy of the sweet 16 to my ears, and I might choose differently if you asked me again tomorrow. I think I find myself more drawn to the BM at this moment because of how locked-in the band is throughout. Goose has many great multi-segment jams at this stage of their career. And most of their great "one themed" jams are of the bliss variety. This BM is neither multi-segment nor bliss. It locates an ominous mountaintop in the distance and starts climbing towards it, never breaking stride.

First off, this should be Jive Lee. Okay now that I got it off my chest, I'll take Thatch. I think originally I would've gone with Big Modern, but upon relistening to both today I found myself really enjoying the Thatch. Perhaps it has layers that reward with repeated listens. It's good!

Am I the only one that thinks this thatch is overrated? Itβs a good version, but I think thereβs multiple better versions from this year. π€·ββοΈWent with big modern here, much funner jam in my opinion

Not under any delusions that BM would ever beat this Thatch but man I love it. Glad it won a round.

I had these ranked a bit closer than a 1/9, w/ Thatch as a 3-seed and BMo as a 5-seed
This Thatch is great but honestly just makes me want to listen to Kettlehouse '23 Thatch, which does something fairly similar but executed more excitingly (imo)
But it still has more than enough gas in the tank to zip.past the ever-excellent 2nd-best BMo of the year. Pour one out, folks!

BM needs to take a dump on that Thatch!

Might be my favorite Big Modern (although I don't think it deserved to beat that Kemba Jive Lee), but I have this Thatch in the Finals against the Grand Rapids Madhuvan. Sorry, not sorry!

My goat modern vs my goat thatch but unfortunately for the modern the thatch is just too much of a masterclass and deserves a final four spot

Criminally undertiered Big Modern. Don't feel obligated to vote for the Thatch just because it's a #1 - use your own ears!!

What did this Big Modern do to deserve this matchup :( two truly elite jams

Honestly Iβm still a little salty this Thatch knocked off my personal favorite Arcadia. But not that salty because the Thatch is so good itβs got a real shot of taking JOTY.
