Love this Tumble, but if it were a competition of best overall set, this Echo would happily move on. RIP to a very special moment in time and looking around and seeing every person in sight getting down at Fiddler’s.

Lol @ The Principal. Enchiladas are delicious!

Love the Echo. Really love the Tumble. Echo was part of a better set by far but this Tumble is just too nice.

Echo all the way but RIP JOTY of the year. Psycho killer of a rose will go down in history. What an amazing night that was. And I say this as a massive massive tumble fan all around.

I thought this was the best Tumble this year and my #4 overall. I could see it going far, especially if it gets past next round’s tough matchup. I thought Burlington Dogs would put up more of a fight vs the G.R. EMG.

In my initial bracket I voted Tumble, but upon relisten I will be voting for this Echo. The tumble is very good, and deserving of a 2 seed, but just not quite JOTY material to me. The whole band felt like they were in perfect lockstep when it came to interplay. The ocean sound effects Peter threw in were nice, and then it slowly builds like a giant yet gentle wave that washes over you.

On the other hand, this echo of a rose is absolutely bonkers. I assume we are counting both sections of the song and psycho killer, well at least I am. Man this is what goontz should be. Absolutely sensational final leg of the jam. Praying for an upset

Echo jam for me. I said that which ever song it was up against I would still vote Echo. What dance party! Wish I was there for that second set.

YR created a narrative around this Tumble because he was not present. Don't let his reverse attendance bias impact your opinion.

Even with that fact, the best part of this Echo > PK > Echo is not an Echo jam. It is a Psycho Killer jam that was mislabeled. Maybe Handini can explain that one. If it's really him that is. I have my doubts.

Gotta go Tumble here. I get the comparisons to the Mann but I don’t really think it’s just a straight copy of it like some are saying. This echo is tons of fun and in person I was going nuts. On relisten I don’t think it even should have made the bracket.

I love that somebody in here commented that the tumble “blatantly” copied seeming from another evening like it’s plagiarism or something. I think it’s really interesting when a band gets into a groove and finds a repeatable phrasing in the song that sticks around for a little bit. it more marks a point in time in the evolution of the jam/song texture and they typically find their way out eventually. It’s the beauty of the music unfolding.

Like eyes 73 jam that eventually faded away…..

This Tumble is much more relaxing and lighter version of Mann Tumble. It very blatantly copies themes from Mann Tumble but spins them in a more delicate and intentional way. Trevor feels more active in this jam and it feels like a peaceful ride of nostalgia, rather than the carthartic experience provided in Mann Tumble. Really enjoyable jam, but hard to ignore its reprised theme. It’s easy to see this region won’t conclude without controversy and close matchups.

Agreed with what Mike said a few comments below - looking forward to the 3 seed 2/13 EMG smoking this Tumble in a future round!

This Echo is so fun. Wastes zero time getting after it. Sounds like a Cities jam to start, then a My Mind Has Been Consumed jam, back into just a sick ass fun upbeat jam. So tight. Cotter absolutely murders this one. Pretty easy vote for me!

Tumble is cool, especially that jazzy little shenanigans they do after the blissy jam, but to me the jam doesn't have nearly as much replay value. I think it also suffers from a bit of JOTY bracket fatigue. Lots of good blissy stuff in the bracket and this is the last one we get to hear.

How the Indy Tumble didn't advance is beyond my comprehension. Music is subjective but I'm gonna be salty for a while about this. Song for song, jam for jam, Indy Tumble far exceeds Chicago, and MSG's pales in comparison. End rant.

Downtown, we'll drown
We're in our never splendor
Flowers, showers
Who's got the new boy gender?
I'll be your baby, I'll be your score
I'll run the gun for you, and so much more
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for you
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble
Uptown, their sound
Is like the native, you send her
Junction, function
The boy with pop is slender
Did he say maybe or I'm not sure?
He'll be a boy for you, but you need more
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for you
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble
I get a crazy feeling which paces in my head
It's nothing that you do to me, it's nothing that you said
It's love in stereo, and when I can't let go, I say
I'll be your baby, I'll be your score
I'll run the gun for you, and so much more
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for ya
I'll tumble for you

This tumble is very special and personal to me for reasons I might share in later rounds but for now here are some surface level thoughts.

Big Pod has come out against this jam (looking at you AAT fellas) but their reasoning for coming out against it is it sounds too similar to last years JOTY? (It doesn’t btw) This jam is an exquisite bliss journey full of triumph and adventure. I think of Sams speech to Frodo in LOTR Two towers when I listen to this jam. “There’s some good in this world, Mr Frodo and it’s worth fighting for”

It also with a few minutes of some fun dissonance in the end.
It was my number #6 ranked jam of the year and possibly one of the most listened to tracks of the year for me.

So many cool segments in this Tumble. Even ignoring the bliss section altogether, Rick's off-meter, not-quite-drone that picks up around 8:00 is something I wish they would integrate more. Then, for the end run, the KGLW "Big Fig Wasp"-ish cuts around 22:30 also give a unique flavor to the frantic jazz coda thing. They were just locked in for this whole thing.

How this Tumble isnt a number 1 seed is beyond me. "What was the song where the angels came down with the lights?" is how a bystander reacted to it, just pure JOTY stuff.

In any normal year this would be a top contender but in the year of goontz and trainwreck jams its getting subverted.

I’ve piled on the joke about this Tumble being derivative, but even if some parts heavily resemble prior jams, this is packaged in a unique way and stands incredibly well on its own.

I just really love this Echo, and am pained it’s only a #15 seed. Hopefully it got a few more ears on it from JOTY. However Fid N1S2 needs to be heard in its entirety to get the full picture of how much of an achievement this was.

Tumble all the way here. I am pro “recycle” or borrowed. You get to see them take a theme and expand. Animal is a great example, starting in MLK and finishing with that beauty from Goosemas.

Going Tumble! Super fun Echo, though. It's one of my favorite Goontz jams because Goontz was still a rarity when it was played. I still like Goontz, but the first few examples (SF Wysteria, this Echo, Indy Tumble) were thrilling because they were so unexpected. And I still maintain that we should have a separate bracket for Goontz jams next year so they can be properly evaluated.

While I didn't rank this Tumble as high as the crowd (I had it as a 6-seed), I still love it. It has such delicacy and patience. Is it the top of the mountain as far as Goose bliss jams go? Maybe not. But it's a tear-jerker to be sure. The riff that Rick finds and repeats in the middle of the jam is *chef's kiss.* I love how open and spacious that part of the jam is.

@ry_storm normally I'm very on board with hating on jams that have been played before but... this Tumble is not a recycling of the Mann Tumble. There are similarities to be sure. But what makes the Mann Tumble better than this one IMHO is that the Mann has an absolutely devastating chord progression that I'm not sure I've heard from the band before or since (including in this jam). Fellow commenters: Back me up or correct me on this one.

Also: @ry_storm where was this stance when you were stumping for SPAC Drive or Thompson's Wysteria last year lol! Those are great jams, but in terms of recycling, they're much closer to their predecessors (Louisville Arrow and Raleigh Pancakes) than this Tumble is to the Mann Tumble.

As was the case yesterday, we got one part of a multi-part jam in this 15 Seed Echo, and I'm not sure how I feel about it Part of me feels like this is what the people want, and part of me equates it to watching Return of the Jedi without getting to watch New Hope or Empire. I love when the band pulls off great segues and the whole sandwich thing is always welcome, but I usually treat those as one “musical event”. To hear just the back-end jam of Factory Fiction or to only get the finish to that fantastic Echo>Psycho Killer>Echo... kinda makes my OCD act up. There's definitely a cool little electronica thing going on here, but at less than 12 minutes and without the rest of the gang… it’s a no for me. That said… listening to the entire second set from night one at Fiddler’s should be on everyone's "to do" list. It’s one of the best sets of the year, and has way too much flow to be broken up into small bites. Sit down and enjoy the entire enchilada!

I’m not as over-the-top about this Tumble as others seem to be (it was in the bottom half of my bracket), but it’s good. I think there is something to be said about its simplicity, and how sometimes less is more. It moves on here, and probably wins next round as well... before it falls victim to EMG.

Ryan, I love what you do, but I have to respectfully push back on the obsession of every jam having to be 100% unique. Call me old, but that was never a standard applied to thousands of incredible Dead and Phish shows where people and the band were connecting in the magic of the here and now. I’d rather let Goose go with the flow than get their head done in by an internet obsession with constant fronteirsmanship.

Y'all, we love it when they Tumble like this, but have you heard them do a GOONTZ Tumble? I guess, I just liked this style of Tumble jam more last year when it won JOTY in Philly. Fiddlers N1S2 is some of the best psychedelic shit they've ever done, and this Psycho Echo sandwich inside a Factory turducken went somewhere truly unique and deserves a massive upset.
